Friends of Monroe County Homeless Animals, Inc. is an all-volunteer animal welfare organization. Our mission is to improve the living conditions & quality of life of homeless pets in Monroe County, help fund veterinary care & spay/neuter, facilitate adoptions, find foster care and work with rescue to place animals awaiting adoption in safe and stable environments.
Our Focus is working with all of the volunteers and animal rescue organizations in the county in order to give the homeless animals in our area the best chance at a new life. We are dedicated to making sure every homeless animal receives proper veterinary care while in transition and is placed in a safe and loving home.
Our Vision is to institute support programs and procedures that do not currently exist (or that operate on a very limited scale) in Monroe County, including but not limited to:
Establishing and maintaining an ever-expanding pet foster program.
Networking with local and regional organizations to provide responsible placement of “special needs” animals.
Working in conjunction with local veterinary clinics to provide no/low cost spay and neutering services, routine medical evaluation, and vaccinations to all animals of the county.
Participation in the transport of animal’s to/from vet appointments, foster care and new family placement if necessary.
Organizing fund-raising events.
Initiating public education programs designed to increase the quality of life for local animals.
Providing professional animal behavior evaluations and obedience workshops.
Showcasing homeless animals at local events and through mass-media to heighten public awareness of the need for permanent/foster housing.
Utilization of the Internet through sites such as Petfinder, Pets911 and similar resources to place animals in permanent family settings.
Assisting/partnering with other local groups in their work on behalf of homeless pets.
